I have been using both of the Eco Contact 6 and the Premium Contact 5 Continental tyres on two cars, these are my thoughts and opinions.

Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Cornering
Both are brilliant. A big step forward over any other tyres I have used. High speed cornering stability is excellent even though the tyres have a high profile (60). Of course not the same as low profile tyres stability but they don’t limit the speed you can take into high speed corners.
Both the Eco Contact 6 and the Premium Contact 5 inspire massive confidence, low speed, medium speed and in high speed corners.
Maybe the Premium Contact 5 have the edge but I think the level of performance between the two tyres is too close to call.

Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Noise
Road noise from the Eco Contact 6 and the Premium Contact 5 is minimal. Both tyres are very quiet.
Again, too close to call
2-2
Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Ride Comfort
Both tyres give excellent comfort, they feel as if they breathe with the road no matter how bumpy it is. A real revelation over other tyres I have used.
Not a noticeable difference between the two, so another draw
3-3
Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Wet Grip
Initial impression is that both tyres give excellent grip in wet conditions but I have had much more experience of the Premium Contact 5 in wet conditions so I couldn’t say one is better than the other. Another draw
4-4
Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Straight Line Grip
This is one area where I believe there is a noticeable difference between the ECO Contact 6 and the Premium Contact 5.
With the Premium Contact 5, I can almost give it full power from a standstill and there will be little to no wheelspin, the car will just take off. This is something I have not experienced before in a road tyre and even with track day tyres (not enough heat in normal driving). For someone that has been struggling with acceleration grip for years, the Premium Contact 5 were a massive and welcome surprise.
The Eco Contact 6 on the other hand do not give the same amount of grip from a standstill. Yes they are good but they do not give the same care free, foot to the floor grip of the Premium Contact 5. In my experience, they are not even close.
5-4 to Premium Contact 5
Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Price
If you find the Premium Contact 5 within 15-20% of the price of the Eco Contact I would say go for the Premium Contact. It is hard to put a price on the launching ability of a tyre but if the Premium Contact 5 costs less than 15-20% more than the Eco Contact, I would be going for the Premium Contact 5.
A bigger price difference than 15-20%?
Then it would be a bit of a toss up for me, maybe a 20% price difference would push me towards the Eco Contact 6
Eco Contact 6 vs Premium Contact 5 – Summary
Score wise the Premium Contact 5 wins and subjectively the Premium Contact 5 tyre wins.
Having said that, the decision will come down to the price difference. If the Eco Contact is over 20% cheaper, maybe it would be the winner.
Whichever of these two tyres you choose I don’ t think you will be disappointed.
In my experience they are well worth the extra money over other brands and models of tyre. Every time I drive the car, every time I take a corner, every time I accelerate from a set of lights I am thankful I chose either tyre.
It’s hard to put a price on that constant and recurring level of satisfaction.

Hi. I installed Michelin CrossClimate2 6 months ago. They will be on the car for at least 6 more months. Maybe after I’ll do the latest PremiumContact
